An analyst has forty minutes before a brief is due. On his screen: a network map of a shipping corridor, a wargame after-action report from a scenario run last month, an AI-generated summary of overnight intelligence traffic, and a colleague who keeps saying “the model shows”. None of these things will tell us what happens next. Used well, they can change how we think about what happens next, which is a different, and more useful, thing for a tool to do.
